The Weeknd has announced a new album. Dawn FM is out this Friday, January 7. Tyler, the Creator, Lil WayneQuincy Jones, frequent collaborator Oneohtrix Point Never, and, mysteriously, the actor Jim Carrey feature on the record.

In a message he posted on Instagram last week, the Weeknd wrote, “Music can heal and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people.” Although Carrey’s role in the album is unclear, the Weeknd has noted that the pair are telescope buddies.

Last August, the Weeknd shared his first track since 2020’s After Hours, “Take My Breath.” The song’s strobe-heavy music video was pulled from Imax theaters shortly before its release over concerns that it could trigger epileptic seizures.

The Weeknd has stayed busy with a number of collaborations since then. He joined FKA Twigs for “Tears in the Club,” linked up with Rosalía on “La Fama,” collaborated with Post Malone on “One Right Now,” and remixed “Save Your Tears” with Ariana Grande. He also appeared on the posthumous Aaliyah song “Poison.”

Beyond music, the Weeknd has been developing an HBO series called The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Starring alongside the Weeknd in the cast are Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, and others.

This summer, the Weeknd will hit the road for his After Hours tour, which has been delayed several times since it was announced.
