Ja Rule is the latest celebrity to venture into the world of NFTs. Recently, an original painting, specially commissioned by the artist himself sold at auction for $122,000 USD.
The painting in question was created by Tripp Derric Barnes and features the Fyre Media logo prominently in place. The piece itself was previously hung in Fyre Media’s office, but was relocated to Ja Rule’s home following the catastrophic events that transpired as a result of the fraudulent events of Fyre Festival.
It was sold through the rapper’s newest NFT venture Flipkick. Flipkick is amongst one of the latest NFT marketplaces that provide both up-and-coming and established artists opportunities to monetize their work as NFTs.
Though Ja Rule was amongst one of the higher-profile names attached to the festival, he was able to dodge the $100 million USD class-action suit. As to why he wanted to sell the painting, Ja Rule tells Forbes, “I just wanted that energy out.” The winning bidder will also receive a note from Rule himself, stating “F*ck this painting.” The owner will also be able to request an autograph from the artist.
