The United States won the Women’s World Cup for a record fourth time as they eventually overpowered the Netherlands in Lyon.

With a extravagant 2-0 win over Netherlands, the United States Women’s National Team takes the win in the 2019 FIFA World Cup.

Defending their 2015 win, USWNT took their second straight and fourth overall World Cup championship (the first Women’s World Cup was in 1991). Manager Jill Ellis also continues her undefeated streak, becoming the first manager ever to win the tournament twice.

After a first half in which USA missed on a number of opportunities in front of the goal, Megan Rapinoe scored the first point of the match on a penalty kick at the 61-minute mark. Megan finished the tournament with six goals and three assists, taking home both the Golden Boot Award for leading goalscorer and the Golden Ball Award for simply being the best player on the pitch at any given moment.

Eight minutes after Rap’s point, 24-year-old Rose Lavelle ran out from midfield and sliced in a brilliant goal just inside the penalty box. From there, the American’s played with the clock and solidified their spot atop the sport.
